Meet Our Judges

We would like to introduce our judges, one per month, as a special insight into the show. As you know, we will have 4 judges for this show, working in a team of 2. So, here goes…introducing our first judge:

Sherry Massey began quilting in 1980. Countless quilts later, she is honored to be Oklahoma’s first NACQJ Certified Judge. She is a member of the Edmond Quilt Guild and has served as the Edmond Quilt Show chairman and most recently as judging room coordinator, a job that is both educational and rewarding. She has had two quilts juried into AQS shows in Paducah for fall 2017 and spring 2019. She is a proud member of a small group that makes quilts for Boys’ Ranch Town. She teaches English Paper Piecing classes and enjoys helping guilds discover the rewards of holding judged shows. Sherry is the Senior Registrar for the Oklahoma History Center where a collection of over 400 quilts is housed. After twice visiting Japan, she has developed a deep admiration for traditional Japanese textiles and is currently working on a project that incorporates vintage indigo cottons and kimono silks with vintage American cottons and linens.

Constance Duffey (Connie) is an award-winning quilter and a retired Army wife. She first picked up needle and thread while watching her grandmother sew. Connie took her first sewing lesson in sixth grade and has been sewing ever since! Sewing clothes was the easiest way to get a new outfit! Her husband, Dennis, surprised her a few weeks before their first Christmas together by taking her down to the Sears Mail Order Store and letting her choose her first machine. It was at Ft Bragg, North Carolina that Connie learned how to make a quilt (the really old fashioned way with cardboard templates and hand piecing). This quilt was a work in progress for almost 12 years! At subsequent duty stations, Connie learned tole painting, woodworking, and silk embroidery. She came back to quilting when they moved to Texas in 1994. A non-quilting co-worker suggested they go to the International Quilt Festival one year and it inspired Connie to work on her quilting skills. Connie is an active member in the Crossroads to Texas Quilt Guild where she served as webmaster, membership chair, and raffle quilt coordinator. She has served as Registrar and Judging Coordinator at her guild's bi-annual quilt shows. All of her entries in the Hoffman Challenge have made the travelling show. She is a Candidate in the National Association of Certified Quilt Judges Candidate Program. Welcome CONNIE!

Cindy Seitz-Krug has been quilting for more than 25 years. She is best known for her international award-winning heirloom machine quilting accomplished on a domestic sewing machine. Cindy’s book, “The Grid Design Workbook” has been very successful due to the current popularity of grid-based quilting designs. She is also an iQuilt instructor and has several on-line domestic machine quilting classes. Cindy has taught all over the country, including at the AQS show in Paducah, Kentucky, as well as Road to California. Additionally, she is currently enrolled in the NACQJ quilt judging certification process, and has co-authored “A Guide to Judged Quilt Shows”. Cindy loves to teach machine quilting and feels great pride when her students tell her that after taking her classes, they have the confidence and ability to now quilt their own quilts!
